Top Link Building Techniques in 2016 – The propaganda.
I recently stumbled upon a thread on Inbound and was amazed at the propaganda.
Someone asked – “What is the best way to build links in 2016 ?”
I can summarise everything in that thread to a mere list of points.
- Create something unique like infographic, video, blog article, resource article.
- Influencer outreach.
- Build relationships.
- Guest post.
Only for once if the marketing community would abandon this “kool-aid” they are drinking.
The problem with most businesses.
Jack runs a maintenance repair shop. He has been running the shop for ten years. He has done well over the years and caters to a wide variety of clients. Most of his business has been through Google in the last few years.
Jack now wants to get more clients as his business is growing. He approaches a marketing agency, and they pitch him a marketing plan. Tom from the Kool marketing company pitches him a great marketing plan that has on-page optimisation, off-page optimisation, link building, schema implementation, citations, local listings and the content marketing. The plan with the lot.
However, since Jack is a running a small business. He can only spend $1000/month on marketing.
How is Jack ever going to afford these creative people (to create infographics) and these amazing “influencer outreach” campaigns?
Tom’s marketing agency charges a minimum of $1000 per client which only includes the basic plan. It cannot and does not contain all this creative “influence outreach” and “growth hacking” that people are talking.
Now take Jack’s business and multiply that with 1000’s.
That’s the state of 1000’s of business out there. They don’t have the money for guest posting and “influence outreach” and “growth hacking”. They work with a limited budget.
Sure you also have the retail clients/larger business relying on social media and creative stuff. However, these industry companies, manufacturers, CNC machine shops, plumbers, maintenance service, personal services, contract workers jobs are not sexy. They cannot afford to pay a creative person $800 for an infographic or $1000 for a video that will help others. That’s the last thing they want to do.
Link Building in 2016
Let me go ahead and say that link building in 2016 is roughly the same as it was in 2009. It will also stay the same in 2020.
There is nothing new added to these threads that is different in 2016.
